Community connection at Burpengary Manor: April 2026

At Burpengary Manor, April was a month that reminded us why the connections we share each day matter so much. From festive celebrations and live music to quiet mornings in the garden and community outings, our residents embraced every moment together – and there was no shortage of things to smile about.

Easter celebrations and high tea

The month opened with the warmth of Easter, and we marked the occasion in style. Residents gathered for an Easter High Tea, complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny himself. The afternoon was filled with laughter, sweet treats, and the kind of easy happiness that comes from celebrating together. Congratulations to all our Easter Raffle winners – the excitement in the room was palpable.

Everyday moments that make a day

Not every meaningful moment needs a special occasion. Our residents enjoyed a full week of everyday activities that kept spirits high and days full of purpose. Knitting sessions, music therapy, morning tea in the café, and a lively round of bingo gave everyone something to look forward to. These are the rhythms of life at Burpengary Manor – simple, genuine, and always shared.

The Henny Penny chickens arrive

Perhaps the most talked-about arrival of the month came with the sound of soft clucking and the sight of tiny beaks. Our Henny Penny chicken hatching program brought a flock of newly hatched chicks into the home, and the response from residents was immediate and heartfelt. Watching the chicks hatch brought back fond memories for many, and the conversations, smiles, and stories that followed were a joy to be part of. By the end of the month, all of the chickens had gone to good homes – but not before leaving a lasting impression on everyone they met.

A tribute concert and a moment of remembrance

A special Elvis Presley tribute performance brought music, memories, and a deeply moving moment to our community. The room came alive with familiar songs and warm nostalgia – and one of our residents even stepped up to sing, earning a well-deserved round of applause.

The occasion also carried quiet significance. One of our residents had been looking forward to this performance with great anticipation but sadly passed away before she could attend. In her honour, the performer dedicated a heartfelt rendition of Can’t Help Falling in Love to her memory. It was a touching tribute that brought tears and smiles in equal measure. Our thoughts remain with her family and loved ones.

Outings, cooking, and time in the garden

Community connection at Burpengary Manor extends well beyond our walls. Residents joined staff for a community walk to Woolworths, shopping together for afternoon tea supplies and everyday groceries. It was a simple outing that offered gentle exercise, fresh air, and the kind of independence that matters. A separate bus trip delighted everyone – including a surprise koala sighting along the way – before the gentlemen rounded out the afternoon with a friendly game of pool.

Time in the garden proved just as popular. Residents soaked up the fresh air, tended to plants, and a number enjoyed dining outside – a relaxed and refreshing change of scenery that everyone appreciated. A bus trip to the Lookout Café for morning tea rounded out the month’s outings beautifully.

ANZAC Day – reflection and community

April at Burpengary Manor would not be complete without acknowledging ANZAC Day. We held a meaningful ANZAC Service, joined by a bagpiper whose music set a respectful and moving tone for the occasion. We are grateful to the Deception Bay RSL Club for hosting the service, and to one of our staff members who gave a demonstration of two-up – a tradition that always draws a crowd.

Residents and families also came together to bake ANZAC biscuits, a hands-on way of honouring the day that felt as nourishing as it did meaningful. On 25 April, we paused as a community to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of all who have served. Lest we forget.

Pampering, birthdays, and the lolly shop

A morning of pampering gave our ladies a relaxing and refreshing start to one of the week’s days, while a birthday celebration for one of our residents brought family, friends, and staff together in a room full of laughter, smiles, and – of course – plenty of cake.

The ever-popular Lolly Shop made another appearance, alongside knitting, shared conversation, a wonderful concert, and some gentle gardening. It was the kind of week that captures everything we love about life here.

Looking ahead

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and we are excited to announce that Mother’s Day Raffle tickets are now on sale. The draw will take place at our Mother’s Day High Tea on 6 May at 1:30 pm – and the prizes are truly exceptional. We hope to see you there.

April was a month that showed us, once again, how much community connection means at Burpengary Manor. Whether it was a chick hatching in your hands, a song sung in someone’s memory, or a biscuit baked together on a quiet morning – every moment counted.
