Burpengary Manor Newsletter – Summer 2025-26

The Burpengary Manor newsletter for Summer 2025-26 is out now, this is your chance to catch up on everything that has been happening across our community over the summer months.
What Is Inside This Edition?
Three Christmas Parties, Bus Trips, and the Great Pavlova Debate
Summer kicked off with not one but three Christmas parties, each bringing families through the doors and filling the home with the kind of warmth that only that time of year brings. Santa visited, a Christmas lunch was shared, and the Burpengary Seventh-day Adventist group came to sing carols. We also headed out one evening on a Christmas lights hunt, driving through street after street of glittering displays and even bumping into some of our own staff out enjoying the lights. January brought Australia Day and Waitangi Day, celebrated together as a multicultural community. The Waitangi Day festivities included New Zealand food in the cafe, a live haka demonstration, and a debate that is still going: who invented the pavlova, Australia or New Zealand? We have not settled it yet.
New Greenhouses, a Pool Table, and AI Caricatures
The lifestyle team has been busy introducing new activities and experiences. We now have two greenhouses in the garden, built by the community working side by side, with sunflowers thriving and a resident carefully growing orchids inside. A new pool table has quickly become a favourite, buffet breakfasts in the cafe have been a hit, and the kindy children from Lead Childcare visited twice for arts and crafts and hand painting. One activity nobody expected to love quite so much: AI caricature portraits. The results were, by all accounts, absolutely hilarious.
Meet Steph, Kitchen Manager, and Resident June
This edition also introduces Steph, the kitchen manager who has been with Burpengary Manor for two years and has spent 20 years as a chef, 12 of them in aged care. Her philosophy is simple: aged care food should be more than slop on a plate. We also get to know June, a resident who grew up in Devon, England, during World War II. June still enjoys learning, listening to audiobooks, and sharing her knowledge of cooking, crocheting and card making. Her advice to others: be kind to one another and share your stories. Flip through and you will find community highlights from across the season, activities, outings and events that kept everyone busy over summer, updates from our lifestyle and care teams, and a look ahead at what is coming in the months ahead.
