Autumn at Burpengary Manor: a season of community and celebration

Autumn has been a wonderfully busy season at Burpengary Manor aged care, filled with outings, celebrations and plenty of reasons to gather together. Our Autumn edition of The Burpengary Bulletin is now available, and we wanted to share some of the highlights with you.

Life at Burpengary Manor aged care this autumn March, April and May took our residents well beyond the front door. We enjoyed a morning tea at Bellmere Strawberry Farm, a community walk to Woolworths for afternoon tea supplies, and several scenic bus trips, including a stop at the Lookout Cafe. Visits to a local childcare centre brought plenty of smiles, with one resident’s daughter even joining in on the day.

Celebrations worth remembering There was no shortage of special occasions this autumn. St Patrick’s Day featured a solo bagpiper who played both traditional and electric pipes, and Harmony Week saw residents come together to create a vibrant Harmony Tree. The Easter Bunny paid us a visit, and the Henny Penny chickens spent two weeks with us, giving everyone the chance to watch the chicks hatch and grow.

Anzac Day was marked with a moving service at the Deception Bay RSL, complete with bagpipes, followed by Anzac biscuit baking with families and staff. Mother’s Day brought a beautiful high tea for our ladies, and we paused on International Nurses Day to thank our wonderful nursing team.

A milestone 100th birthday One of the true highlights of the season was celebrating a resident’s 100th birthday, surrounded by family, staff and fellow residents. It was a beautiful reminder of the rich lives our residents have led and continue to lead.

Music, memories and a touch of magic Our Elvis tribute performance turned into one of the most memorable afternoons of the quarter, with the performer dedicating a song to a resident who had recently passed. It was a moment that brought the whole room together.

Meet Gloria This edition also features a beautiful profile on Gloria, one of our residents who recently turned 100. From her years on the tennis and golf courts to her famous curried sausages, Gloria’s story is one of friendship, sport and a wonderful sense of humour.
